What colours and images are used?The colours are very dark with mainly blues and blacks, these connotate emptiness and death. The titles are in red to stand out against the darkness and to imply danger.
What font and layouts are used?
The font is bold and of a standard style, it's not unique or hard to read so it stands out well and keeps the simplicity.
How is the sequence edited?
To begin with there are lots of longer scenes with cut edits but as the opening progresses the clip is cut more with lots of edits to make it upbeat and create tension, preparing you for the rest of the film.
How does it establish the genre?
Throughout there is lots of dim lighting to create a sense of mystery and eeriness. Lots of music surrounds the opening, it can be interpreted as blade slashes reflecting on the name of the film. All of these establish the genre as they create a mysterious and scary atmosphere, following the horror genre.
The Thing 3
You cannot really work out what the images are which adds mystery, this reflects the name "The Thing" as we don't know what that is either. The colours are dark consisting mainly of blacks and greys, they symbolise death and loneliness which may be a key theme throughout the film.
What font is used?
The font is a mixture of upper and lower case letters, they are not in a straight line which could reflect the narrative- it may be non-linear. The colour is white so it is visible against the dark background, it may show the character's innocence as there will be victims due to it being a horror.
How is the sequence edited?
There are fades and cuts which makes the sequence seem very realistic which is key in order to make the audience believe in the film as this will add to the scare factor.
How does it establish the genre?
The unknown images, scary font and realistic editing establishes the horror genre as it adds an element of threat and the unknown but is believable.
